The Town of Innisfil and Innisfil ideaLAB & Library have partnered to host the grand opening of the Cookstown Ice Rink on Saturday, February 9th from 11am to 3pm. The Cookstown Family Skate Day will celebrate this new refrigerated rink with a family-friendly event. To help us celebrate, Gabrielle Daleman, Quest for Gold athlete and PyeongChang 2018 Olympic medalist will be attending. There will be activities throughout the day with free food, hot chocolate provided by the local Tim Horton’s, children’s activities, a visit from local Cookstown firefighters, along with guests, Anna and Olaf!

“The Cookstown Ice Rink is an amazing example of the great things that happen when a community comes together,” said Mayor Lynn Dollin, adding, “The ice rink is a first of many upgrades to be celebrated, come join in the fun!”

Funding for the event is provided by OLG, an amazing community ambassador that has donated over $5.5-million from 2017-2018 to Town initiatives. This valuable contribution to the Town of Innisfil has allowed us to provide numerous benefits to our residents. “OLG is proud to be a vital part of Innisfil for more than 17 years and we look forward to continuing to build on that support”, said Jake Pastore, OLG’s Director of Municipal and Community Relations. “Each and every year 100 per cent of OLG proceeds are invested in Ontario. From healthcare, to education, to community festivals, OLG proceeds are hard at work in Innisfil and all across our province. And, we appreciate the contribution of Gateway Casinos Innisfil employees in making life in Innisfil that much richer.”

This refrigerated rink has already proved to be a considerable upgrade to the Cookstown community in the winter months. Consultation on the Cookstown Community Park concluded last year, with residents largely contributing to the direction of the design. The Cookstown rink marks the beginning of the excitement for this space.
