Sweeping across more than 3,400 square km and twenty municipal borders, the Lake Simcoe Watershed is a source of drinking water for many communities. It is home to over 400,000 full time residents. It assimilates waste from 15 wastewater plants, supports local business and agriculture, and hosts thousands of tourists and recreational activities. It has an annual economic impact of over $200 million. Meaningful protection of the Lake Simcoe watershed is critical and we need your help to achieve it. The natural capital value of the goods and services provided by Lake Simcoe’s watershed (storage of flood waters, air pollution absorption, pollination of crops and water filtration) is estimated at close to $1 Billion. Our watershed has been designated provincially as a ‘place to grow’ and it is estimated that by 2031 the population of our watershed will reach over 1 million residents; placing further demands on life-sustaining forests, streams and rivers. Meaningful protection of the Lake Simcoe watershed is critical and we need your help to achieve it. The Lake Simcoe Conservation Foundation is a registered environmental charitable organization that is governed by an elected volunteer Board of Directors. Established in 1973, we are the lead organization actively working to protect and restore the land and water in our beautiful watershed. Our vision is of a community that works together to respect and support a healthy eco-system. Lake Simcoe and its rivers and streams will be cleaner, the land greener and its natural features protected for future generations to enjoy.
