Mnjikaning: Mapping The Life of the Gaudaurs

Sat. 20 Apr, 2019 10:00 am - Sun. 1 Sep, 2019 4:00 pm

April 20 to Sept. 1 — Mnjikaning: Mapping The Life of the Gaudaurs. This exhibition will showcase the Gaudaur lineage through the family connection to the Atherley Narrows, civic contributions, and the family's sport legacy. After the war of 1812, Quebec voyageur, Antoine Godard (Gaudaur) met Chippewa Chief Big Shilling's daughter, Mary, to settle down on one of the town's first homesteads to raise a family. Their second son, Francis Gaudaur was born on April 13, 1819. The Gaudaur bloodline now represents the extended family of French Canadian, British, Indigenous members who helped to build this community. Ultimately, we will meet the family and their descendants who made Orillia and area their home 200 years ago.

The Mariposa Gala

Sat. 27 Apr, 2019 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Join us for a night of food, wine and entertainment!

We are proud to present The Mariposa Gala in support of Orillia Museum of Art & History’s children’s programs. Following the success of last year’s Mariposa Gala, we will be joined again by sommelier and certified fromager Andre Derrick from Vineland Estates Winery. He has chosen a wonderful selection Vinelands wines paired with fine Canadian cheeses featuring some of our local food purveyors to compliment the wine in the company of friends, colleagues and family. There will be live entertainment through the night and foods from local restaraunts.

With your help our goal is to expand our community outreach in partnership with local and regional charities by providing transportation, meals and opportunities for children and youth to participate in programming that would otherwise not be available to them. These specialized programs support children’s development and youth’s portfolio development for admission to post-secondary education.

We look forward to seeing you on April 27th at Lakehead University Orillia, Simcoe Hall building. Together, we can help at risk children and youth experience the joy of creating, learning and growing in a safe fun space.
