Connecting Lake Simcoe's Community

Aurora, ON – The Aurora Cultural Centre is pleased to announce that it has been newly accredited under Imagine Canada’s national Standards Program. The Centre is one of 24 organizations granted approval today to use the Imagine Canada ‘Trustmark’, indicating a thorough compliance with a rigorous set of standards.

The Canada-wide Standards Program is a set of shared standards for charities and nonprofits designed to demonstrate compliance in five key areas: board governance; financial accountability and transparency; fundraising; staff management; and volunteer involvement. It helps organizations mitigate risk by ensuring that staff and volunteers understand and meet their legal, financial and fiduciary responsibilities.

Lynn Chambers, Manager of the Standards Program at Imagine Canada noted that the Aurora Cultural Centre demonstrates compliance, and “in many cases has leading practices in place.” The Peer Review committee commended the Centre in particular for a “…robust strategic plan, a thorough conflict of interest policy, and excellent volunteer policies and procedures.”

“The Aurora Cultural Centre sought out this accreditation through Imagine Canada in order to highlight our commitment to charitable best practices,” says Executive Director Laura Schembri. “Imagine Canada offers a transparent process where the five areas of compliance are evaluated by a Peer Review Panel. Their Trustmark provides a gold standard – and we are thrilled to find ourselves in such respected company as Save the Children Canada, the Canadian Diabetes Association and World Vision in attaining this designation.”

Aurora Mayor Geoffrey Dawe echoed his acclaim, adding “The Imagine Canada Standards Program Trustmark is the benchmark in Canada for demonstrated excellence and commitment to the highest industry practices in the nonprofit and charitable sector. We commend the work of the Board of Directorsand Centre staff in pursuing this designation.”
