Camp Kitchikewana Endowment Fund at Huronia Community Foundation announced
Barrie, ON – In an effort to continue inspiring youth in our communities for years to come, the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is thrilled to announce the establishment of the Camp Kitchikewana Endowment Fund, in partnership with the Huronia Community Foundation. This fund will continue to support access and programs at Camp “Kitchi” for years to come.
YMCA Camp Kitchi, operated by the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka, has been offering quality residential camping programs since 1919. Nestled in Georgian Bay Islands National Park, its programs allow young people to learn about themselves with a focus on skill development in activities such as sailing, lifesaving, canoeing, kayaking, and the arts. “The Camp Kitchikewana experience helps young people build leadership skills and values that will stay with them throughout their lives. Camp is a powerful character developer that all kids deserve a chance to experience” says Rob Armstrong, CEO of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka.
The fund has been established with $75,000, and is earmarked to support campers and program initiatives at Camp Kitchi. “Camp is part of the culture and growing up in the Midland area,” says Patricia Copeland, Executive Director of the Huronia Community Foundation. “We are a charity supporting charities who, like the YMCA, believe building healthier communities starts in our own backyard. By making a legacy gift through this endowment, a donor has the opportunity to continue their gift in perpetuity.”
