Connecting Lake Simcoe's Community

World Environment Day, June 5, urges all of us to protect our natural surroundings.

Here are some of the ways to mark the day:

  • Cook an environmentally friendly dinner for you and your family, and eat outside under the open sky to take in the beautiful surroundings. You can help your family understand how the food that you eat can have a major impact on the environment by taking a cleaner approach to dinner, but also make it fun and festive!
  • One of the biggest causes of air pollution is transportation, so one way to celebrate this day is to take a car-free day trip. Pick any place of your choosing, whether it be a beach, hiking trail, garden or park and spend some time enjoying the environment to remind ourselves how important it is to protect it! Maybe even have a picnic!
  • Plant something with your family! Maybe even plant your own fruits and veggies. This will benefit your health and also reduce the amount of emissions caused by burning fossil fuels, since the food you grow does not have to be transported to stores.
  • There are multiple live streams that people can join, located in different parts of the world. Some of them are live feeds and others are live discussions. Here is the URL:
