More than 500 people bundled up in coats, hats and mittens at Innisfil Beach Park Feb. 20 to watch the 20th Annual Innisfil Polar Bear Dip, which raised more than $6,000 in pledges.
For the fifth year, ICECorp partnered with the Lake Simcoe Conservation Foundation, which raises money to improve the environmental health of Lake Simcoe. More than $2,000 was pledged to support the LSCF's Freezin for a Reason event. To date, almost $40,000 has been raised by the LSCF through their participation in the Polar Bear Dip.
Each year, ICECorp chooses a preferred charity to benefit from their Polar Bear Dip, and this year it was Gilda's Club of Simcoe Muskoka, which offers free support programs for families affected by cancer.
This year, $3,866 was pledged to support Gilda's Club. This was topped up to $4,000 by the ICECorp board of directors.
The Innisfil Fire and Rescue Service Members assisted, standing in the almost-frozen water to help Polar Bear jumpers get out quickly.
