Community open houses are being held in November in Barrie, Newmarket and Aurora to gather your comments on plans for improving GO service in the Lake Simcoe area.
Metrolinx, an agency of the provincial government, is developing more transportation for the residents of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area, as well as its surrounding communities. As with any project this major, Metrolinx would like the citizens of the Lake Simcoe area to come forward and provide feedback to help plan these new tracks and electrification infrastructure:
Barrie Rail Corridor Expansion TPAP: metrolinx.com/RERBarrie
This project is currently in the early stages and developers are working through technical studies to prepare for the Transit Project Assessment Process (TPAP), that will help to further install new tracks from Lansdowne Avenue in the City of Toronto to Allandale Waterfront GO Station in Barrie. The public meetings will further discuss the TPAP, as well as reviewing tree/vegetation planting and noise mitigation strategies.
GO Rail Network Electrification Transit Project Assessment Process (TPAP) (Hydro One as co-proponents): gotransit.com/electrification
Metrolinx is currently working to electrify main areas of the GO Transit systems. The schedule presented in early 2016 raised some significant concerns by communities involved, so the time for engagement with residents has been extended. The main focus at public meetings for this infrastructure will be to provide an update on the project and conceptual design of the Traction Power Supply and Distribution components.
Lakeshore East - Don River to Scarborough Expansion TPAP: metrolinx.com/DonRiverScarborough
Metrolinx is undertaking for one the largest infrastructure projects in North America with this expansion. Over the next 10 years, the agency will be working with communities to change the already existing GO Service and introduce a brand new rapid transit experience that will bring 15 minute two way electrified service to the Lakeshore East Rail Corridor.
Each open house will be focusing on discussing the progress and expansion of these major projects in the Lake Simcoe area. Additionally, review of the Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) will provide the opportunity to formally incorporate new insights into the plan, while ensuring that Metrolinx maintains its momentum on the projects underway. You are encouraged to come out and provide your feedback at an open house near you. All meetings begin at 6:30 pm:
