How will Lakehead University’s Orillia Campus grow and develop over the next five years? This is the subject of the University’s recently released Draft Orillia Campus Plan 2013 – 2018.
Lakehead University’s Orillia campus began in 2006 when it welcomed just over 100 students to its downtown Orillia site. Today, Lakehead Orillia boasts over 1,300 students at two campus locations in the city. Its state-of-the-art University Avenue site, the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) campus in North America, opened in 2010 and is now home to academic, residential and cafeteria facilities that serve the communities of Orillia, Barrie, Simcoe County and beyond.
The Orillia Campus Plan 2013 – 2018 will become part of the University’s overall strategic plan currently being developed to guide and oversee the University’s growth over the next five years. The Plan outlines enrolment growth, a new partnership with Georgian College, new initiatives for continuing education and research, and a series of recommendations related to meeting the University’s teaching, research and service goals.
“We have been extremely pleased with the involvement of members of the Lakehead community in the development of our plan,” reported Herman van den Berg, Acting Dean, Orillia Campus. “We have held numerous meetings with our students, faculty and staff, and community partners, and we now want to make sure everyone in the communities we serve has an opportunity to review and provide input into the plan.”
Members of the public can view the Draft Orillia Campus Plan on the University’s website (orillia.lakeheadu.ca) and are invited to share thoughts, comments and questions via an online feedback form. The website also contains a number of resource documents, including a presentation illustrating the growth of the campus during its first seven years in Orillia.
