The Region of York’s new Official Plan prohibits development in the North Gwillimbury Forest’s (NGF) wetlands and significant woodlands, including the Maple Lake Estates property.
According to Ontario’s Planning Act, the Town of Georgina must amend its Official Plan to bring it into conformity with the Region’s Plan.
The Town is starting this review process by holding a Public Workshop on November 14th at the ROC Chalet, 26479 Civic Centre Rd, Georgina, and a Special Council Meeting on December 11th.
The North Gwillimbury Forest Alliance will be participating in the review process to ensure that the Town’s new Official Plan and zoning bylaw will prohibit development in the NGF’s wetlands and significant woodlands.
We will also be working to ensure that the protections that we are advocating for the NGF will be extended to protect all of Georgina’s wetlands and woodlands.
However, to participate effectively in this process we will need your financial support to continue to retain our planning consultant and lawyer. These expert resources have made a huge difference in our ability to effectively push for protection of the North Gwillimbury Forest, including underlining the flaws in the Town’s original positions on these matters.
