Connecting Lake Simcoe's Community

Rescue Lake Simcoe Coalition is fighting to keep Lake Simcoe swimmable, fishable, and as pleasurable as can be!

In case you are preoccupied with the COVID Virus, rebellions in U.S cities, and historic economic collapse  - do not fear - we, the board of RLSC are on the job, fighting to protect Lake Simcoe!

While trying to be sensitive to the issues facing the Province in a pandemic, we are not giving up on pressing the provincial government to uphold the law and review and improve the Lake Simcoe Protection Plan (LSPP), the best freshwater protection plan in Canada. But we need your help to do so.

Please read on to learn about the innovative ways we are asking our community to financially support us.

We had an impressive year last year, advocating and educating about the LSPP review.

However, the Province didn’t review the LSPP in 2019 as they were supposed to. To our knowledge, they have not gathered the necessary monitoring data to even do a legitimate review.

We are concerned that the Province is using COVID as a cover for getting things done in the name of economic recovery, away from normal public scrutiny. They are already doing so.

The Lake Simcoe Protection Plan review is likely in developers’ crosshairs, as it requires them to financially offset the Phosphorus from their developments, and has higher standards for development and natural heritage protection than elsewhere in the province. The threat to our lake is real; we need to make sure that everyone who wants to protect Lake Simcoe has a chance to tell the government:

Decisions, Decisions -- by Charles Pachter

Thanks so much for your help and dedication to our lake. This is the year we will either be successful or not in our mission to protect the Lake Simcoe Protection Plan.

Our fundraising goal for 2020 is $25,000, and so far we have received about $2500. $800 of that was on Giving Tuesday Now, May 5th. Thank you to everyone who has given in support of the lake so far this year!

For those who traditionally give end-of-year gifts, this year we need the money now. We are ramping up for what is sure to be a bumpy LSPP review process and we need to know now what we have the capacity to implement for this campaign.

Please consider how you can help us Protect Our Plan!

In solidarity,

the Board of the Rescue Lake Simcoe Coalition
