Barrie – The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka announces that it has been accredited under Imagine Canada’s national Standards Program. With this achievement, it joins a growing community of more than 120 organizations dedicated to operational excellence.
The Standards Program is a Canada-wide set of shared standards for charities and non-profits designed to strengthen practices in five fundamental areas: board governance; financial accountability and transparency; fundraising; staff management; and volunteer involvement.
“We feel that the Imagine Canada Accreditation is an important process for all charities and non-profits to undertake. It truly gives the staff, the Board, and the communities in which we operate, the confidence in the charity that they will use their donors’ gifts in an impactful and intentional manner,” says Rob Armstrong, CEO YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka.
“It’s no small feat for an organization to earn Standards Program accreditation,” says Bruce MacDonald, President and CEO of Imagine Canada. “It’s a rigorous, peer-reviewed process that is meant to build public trust and confidence in the charitable sector. These organizations take accountability and operational transparency very seriously. We’re glad to have them on board.”
The YMCA's policies and procedures in the five areas of compliance were evaluated by a group of volunteers from the sector, and were found to be compliant with the Standards Program.
Armstrong said he is “very proud that the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is the first YMCA in Canada to receive its accreditation. We strive to be one of the leading charities of choice in our communities, and we know that this process has made us more attuned to our donors and to the charitable investments they make with us.”
