YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is launching its annual “Move to Give” in support of building healthy communities.
Eight communities will come together simultaneously to help children, youth and families stay active and healthy in Simcoe/Muskoka.
The fourth annual “Move to Give” event will be hosted by the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka on April 7, 2018. The massive fundraising initiative will help our friends, neighbours and community members access YMCA programs, who couldn’t otherwise afford it. The goal of the campaign is to raise $100,000 in an effort to help build healthier communities and to eliminate the financial barriers that many in our communities are facing.
The Move to Give event will take place simultaneously in eight YMCAs within our region: Barrie, Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, Gravenhurst, Innisfil, Midland, Orillia and Parry Sound, and at all YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka Child Care centres. The fundraising initiative will bring participants together to be active while raising money to support the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka’s much needed community programs. From running 5km to massive indoor cycling sessions, swimming challenges, fire truck pulls and more— participants will have the opportunity to challenge themselves physically while at the same time, give back to their community.
“Being physically fit is only one part of having a healthy life. There are a number of social determinants affecting the health of our communities, such as childhood obesity, social isolation, chronic disease, unemployment, youth development and poor health and lifestyle choices. The goal of this tremendous fundraising event is to not only raise funds to help children, youth, adults and families access YMCA programs, regardless of their ability to pay, but to continue to provide community programs to help address these social issues today and for generations to come,” says Rob Armstrong, CEO, YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka.
YMCAs in Simcoe/Muskoka provide a wide variety of programs that offer invaluable resources to communities. Health, fitness and recreation programs, education, child care, employment and training programs, camp and outdoor skills, leadership and volunteer development – all are much-needed community programs. By hosting the fundraiser simultaneously across eight communities, it directly reflects the YMCA’s mission and values of community support, participation and belonging.
“Last year, more than 1,300 people in 8 communities across Simcoe/Muskoka joined together on one day and raised funds to help us provide over 15,000 children, youth, adults and seniors with access to YMCA programs. This year, we hope to exceed that number. Without the support of our communities, the YMCA would not be able to provide these important services,” said Armstrong.
Move to Give community sponsors include Collingwood Dental Centre, and Push Promotional Product and Design. Their commitment to helping families in our community is sincerely appreciated.
All members of the community are invited to participate and are encouraged to raise pledges. All donations made through Move to Give qualify for a tax receipt. For more information and to register for the event, please visit www.movetogive.ca.
